The Galician Literature Day is a holiday to dignify and promove the galician language. We celebrate it on May 17 since 1963. This date was choosed ‘cos on May 17 of 1863, Rosalía de Castro published “Cantares Gallegos”, the liric book that denotes the reborn of the literature in Galician language, the begining of the “Rexurdimento”, the cultural movement to dignify the galician language.
Every year, the Galician Literature Day is dedicated to one galician author. The first Galician Literature Day was dedicated, of course, to Rosalía de Castro. Galician authorities use this day to promove the galician language. Is, with the Galician National Day, the most important date to the galician nationalism.
